FUJIFILM Sericol’s Color+ range of solvent-based inks for inkjet printing have been developed for many of the best-known manufacturers of roll-to-roll and drum-fed printers. By adapting ink chemistry to suit precisely the characteristics of each make of inkjet machine, FUJIFILM Sericol has succeeded in establishing the most successful range of solvent-based inks for wide format printers.
In Color+, the loading of pigment, as well as the selection of pigment used offers stronger, brighter colours. In fact Color+ uses the same pigments developed for FUJIFILM Sericol’s UV-curing Uvijet range, which offers vibrant colour with prolonged outdoor durability. Importantly, too, it can allow customers to cut ink consumption by 10%-20% while improving the full colour gamut.
Micro V Dispersion Technology
Much of the success of Color+ lies in Sericol’s proprietary Micro V ultrafine dispersion technology, originally developed for UV-curing inkjet systems.The tolerance of low viscosity ink is critical: to prevent clogging the print heads on a digital press, the particulate in the ink has to be especially fine.

The unique manufacturing process meticulously refines pigment particles, from an initial size of around 50 microns to below one micron in size. To put that in context, particles start about the size of a grain of salt and finish up several times smaller than a human cell. The fineness of grind and dispersion of pigments in the ink have a profound effect on colour and quality as well as on the print heads themselves. On the one hand large quantities of pigment in the formulation offer full vivid colours, while pigment that is too coarse will make the print heads susceptible to clogging. A further tangible benefit of Color+’s dispersion characteristics is that print heads become blocked much less often. Consequently, users experience much less downtime cleaning heads and there is less ink wasted in purging. Because less clogging means less pressure in the head, the life of the head is extended, while the fine dispersion also means that filters last longer, which in turn saves costs and down time replacing them.
Changing ink invariably involves a certain amount of disruption and risk. It takes valuable time out of production to stop a machine, drain it, flush it, fill it with new ink, and potentially re-profile, because the colours are different. But the payback in terms of productivity, reliability and quality far outweigh the initial inconvenience – a fact that explains why Color+ is the fastest growing ink of its type in the world.

- Color+ inks require less purging & clean-up time thus significantly reducing start-up time and reducing scrap. Cost savings can be realised through less frequent need to change filters.
